School-based health centers (SBHC) meet students where they are by offering
comprehensive primary medical, behavioral health, and in some cases, dental services from clinics located within schools across King County. SBHC services support children and youth by increasing access to high-quality, equitable, culturally relevant health care services to support each student’s overall well-being and educational success, including school performance, grade promotion, and high school completion.
Since 2018, Best Starts for Kids has funded 3 SBHCs and provided services to approximately 1000 students annually across all centers. In the renewed Best Starts levy, up to 2 new SBHCs will launch in the 2022-2023 school year. Additional
funding to strengthen systems and service delivery for existing school-based health centers will begin in early 2023.
