Communities of color have long been charting the path forward on environmental justice. The Lead
and Toxics Program (LTP) builds on this leadership to prevent childhood lead poisoning, identify and reduce exposures to environmental toxics, and equitably improve health outcomes. LTP successfully leverages Centers for Disease Control Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (CLPPP) grant funds to integrate activities across Best Starts strategies with a focus on communities most impacted by health inequities. LTP prioritizes Best Starts for Kids funding to identify current and emerging sources of lead and toxics in our
communities, reduce exposure sources within childcare centers, schools, and homes, and to improve access to developmental services for children exposed to lead.
